While others filled their apartments with misshapen loaves of bread or grew a TikTok following, I put together this miniature bookstore kit, Sam’s Study Library, to help keep the cabin fever at bay this year during COVID-19 shutdowns.

Admittedly, the project started off poorly. I questioned my basic motor skills. I got glue in my hair.

The key is to do only a little each day. It helps you hold on to your patience. Plus, the tiny parts have time to dry. I didn’t use the latex glue included in the kit either. I applied bookbinding glue with a paintbrush to the small paper parts and used the included rubber cement like glue for the wooden furniture.

Once all of the little pieces were assembled, putting the room together was very rewarding. The final product looks fantastic on my bookshelf.

According to the kit, the average assembly time is 20 hours. This was probably the case for me with those 20 hours stretched out over six months.
